My Story Isn't What You'd Expect

Born on a North West London council estate in the 80s to a single Black mum, I wasn't expected to reach higher education. But I was the first in my family to go to university - and the only Black girl in my accommodation.

What I discovered there changed everything.

While my privileged housemates arrived with every advantage money could provide, they lacked one critical skill: the ability to take care of themselves.

I watched brilliant minds panic over heating baked beans. Future leaders surviving on microwave meals and anxiety.

That's when I realized: Privilege without capability creates vulnerable adults.

From Necessity to Choice

My Background Became My Superpower

Growing up with necessity taught me:

  • Real resourcefulness (not just buying solutions)

  • How to nourish myself regardless of circumstances

  • That competence is the ultimate privilege

  • Simple systems work better than complex ones

Working with successful families taught me:

16+ years raising my own daughters taught me:
